How to Choose a School
When choosing a school, interview administrators and consider the following
factors:
- What is the average class size or number of teachers per student?
- Will your child have full time teachers or part time/split shift
teachers?
- Does the school offer music, theatre, and physical education classes?
- Are specialty classes such as foreign language taught by an educator
that specializes in that or a teacher who teaches five other subjects as well?
What experience and formal degrees do the teachers have?
- How many hours a week will your child be in class?
- Where do students end up going to college? Does a high percentage of
alumni go on to prestigious universities? What percentage of alumni
goes straight into the work force?
- How does the school's standardized test scores compare with the rest of
the state and nation?
- What associations does the school belong to? What accreditations
does it have?
- What are the facilities like? Look at classrooms, technology,
curriculum, etc. Does the student body seem to have grown faster than
the school facilities?
- What is the appearance of the students? How do they dress?
Do they take school seriously?
